WSD-Website-Banners-HorizontalWe spend a lot of time in the same position: sitting. Whether working at your desk or simply watching TV, sitting in the same position for long periods of time can cause lower back pain and other musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. The key to avoid this is to stay active and get out of your chair as often as possible.

This Friday, October 16 is World Spine Day! Themed on “Your Back at Work”, World Spine Day 2015 will aim to raise awareness of occupational factors and how we can reduce the impact they have on our backs and necks.  Prolonged sitting, as well as the effects of heavy lifting and repetitive movement on workers is taking its toll. Lower back pain (LBP) and other musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions account for one-third of employee absenteeism in Canada. What better way to bring this to light than to share the many benefits of using the Straighten Up Canada app, developed with Canada’s chiropractors.

appworld.blackberryIf you haven’t already downloaded the free Straighten Up Canada app, now is the time! Downloadable on Google Play, Apple App Store and now Blackberry World — this easy to use tool will help improve your posture and spinal health while keeping you moving. The features are user-friendly with easy-to-follow videos for adults and youth that are quick and simple enough to perform on the go.

Set Reminders and Track Your Exercises

The reminders are perfect for prompting you to get up and move. Sometimes when you’re working, it can be difficult to remember to take an active break. It’s a feature that every user can take advantage of.

Choose Your Exercise

Select the adult or youth video option and work your way through the exercises. It’s up to you to decide how many videos you do each day. With practice, completing all the exercises will take you about 3 minutes to perform, and will help guide you through movements that can contribute to a healthier spine.

More than Just Exercises

The app also features a blog with all of the CCA blog posts at your fingertips. Find resources that explain common back problems and triggers, and if you would like to find a chiropractor in your area, check the  directory available directly from the app.

What will using this app do for you?

  • It will help you feel better
  • Help prevent back aches and muscle pain
  • Help mobility
  • Use less energy for daily tasks
  • Increase your spine’s resilience

The app is easy to use, and with the tracking feature, you’ll never miss a day!

If you don’t have an Android, iPhone, or BlackBerry, you can also watch the videos online.
