Low back pain: what does the research say?

Looking for a good summary of the latest research on low back pain? Take a look at this recent article from Dr. Mark Kubert summarizing the findings from the recent series of papers in The Lancet on low back pain. Dr. Kubert highlights three main themes from the series of papers:

  • Conventional standards of care such as rest, pharmacological management, and surgery with a strict bio-mechanical focus are still commonly prescribed;

  • Best available evidence suggests to stay active, and to understand that back pain can be a normal part of life; and

  • Strategies to better promote the message of best evidence, along with incorporating better ways to manage it, including interdisciplinary and/or multimodal approaches.

He adds: “From a chiropractic standpoint, we need to promote the research that supports the role we can play in the effective management of low back pain (including resources like the Canadian Chiropractic Guideline Initiative)”.
