Hill-Sachs lesion – a complication of glenohumeral joint dislocation

    Abstract

The undiagnosed presence of an occult fracture of the posterolateral portion of the humeral head may contribute to clinically obscure symptomatology following dislocation of a shoulder joint. A discussion relative to the etiology, pathogenesis and statistical incidence of the Hill-Sachs deformity is offered. An emphasis is placed on appropriate imaging and diagnosis. An accompanying radiographic example is provided in order to enhance practitioner appreciation. (JCCA 1988; 32(2):89-90)
Key Words: Hill-Sachs lesion, shoulder dislocation, humeral head, manipulation, chiropractic

(JACC 1988; 32(2):89-90)

Atlanto-axial instability in psoriatic arthritis: a case report

    Abstract

Psoriatic arthritis involving the spine is uncommon. However, when it does, atlanto-axial instability may occur. Clinical and radiographic aspects of psoriatic arthritis are reviewed and illustrated with a case report. (JCCA 1988; 32(2):85-87)
Key Words: atlanto-axial instability, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, chiropractic, manipulation

L’arthrite psoriatique envahit rarement l’épine dorsale. (JACC 1988; 32(2):85-87)
Mots-clés: instabilité atlanto-axiale, psoriasis, arthrite psoriatique, chiropraxie, manipulation

    Atlanto-axial subluxation: a case report

    Abstract

One of the causes of death in rheumatoid patients is cord compression following atlanto-axial subluxation. Dislocations in the cervical spine are common with patients who have rheumatoid arthritis. Anterior subluxation occurs in up to 35%, followed by vertical subluxation in 22.2%, lateral subluxation in 20.6% and rarely posterior subluxation. A case report is presented to illustrate such a complication. (JCCA 1988; 32(2):81-84)
Key Words: atlanto-axial subluxation, rheumatoid arthritis, manipulation, chiropractic

(JACC 1988; 32(2): 81-84)
    Mots-clés: sub-luxation atlanto-axiale, arthrite rhumatoïde, manipulation, chiropraxie

Correlation of thermography with spinal dysfunction: preliminary results

    Abstract

The results of a blinded pilot study researching the correlation of thermographic abnormalities and spinal segmental dysfunction are presented. The highest agreement resulted between focal increases in thermal emission and fixation (64.7%). Other parameters studied were tenderness and textural skin changes which agreed with thermographic findings 63.7% and 59.9%, respectively. Correlation coefficients were calculated for each subject and reasons for the wide range (r=.14 to .77) were discussed. Discussion of this research design and suggestions for future study were also presented. (JCCA 1988; 32(2):77-80)
Key Words: thermography, fixation, tenderness, skin rolling, chiropractic

(JACC 1988; 32(2):77-80)
